Client Overview

Nave Newell is a civil engineering and land development consulting firm based in Pennsylvania, established in 1992. The company has expanded to over 30 employees and serves regional clients, emphasizing people, purpose, and precision. They adopted the Fundamentals in 2014.

Why it Matters

Founder Greg Newell saw culture not just as a nice-to-have but as the engine that powered every part of the business. With engineering firms competing for top talent and long-term client relationships built on trust, he knew that creating alignment, clarity, and consistency across the team would be critical to sustaining the firm’s reputation and results. “The culture part,” Greg said, “is the stuff that really matters.”

Challenges

As Nave Newell grew, leadership noticed that original values were inconsistently reflected in daily behaviors. Despite strong intentions and performance, there was a gap between expectations and execution, particularly during onboarding. The absence of a shared language and reliable structure threatened to dilute the company culture amidst ongoing growth.

Solutions

Greg was inspired by David Friedman's message and introduced CultureWise to his company, establishing a set of Fundamentals that reflected their identity. They implemented weekly rituals, stories, and coaching to reinforce CultureWise, focusing on one Fundamental each week during meetings. This simple, consistent approach fostered a strong cultural rhythm, with leadership modeling desired behaviors and promoting cultural language throughout the organization.
